Course description

Becoming a tree surgeon is an on going learning process. It generally starts out with ground work, developing skills as a groundsman, learning how to work with the climber. We at Ground Up Training believe that you should develop your skills on the ground first, then after at least 1 years ground experience has been gained start to venture into the world of a climbing arborist.

Our Arborist training package will provide you with all the necessary training and assessments to start your career as a climbing arborist. Along with the relevant NPTC units, included is a discussion from our instructors on how to become a professional tree surgeon, with the high standard of work practices required within Arboriculture.

Your first week will cover NPTC unit 206/306 (previously CS38) Tree climbing & Aerial Rescue. On this course you will learn the essential skills required to access and manoeuvre around a tree canopy safely. On this course you will also learn how to perform aerial rescue, both from the canopy and from a pole. Your second week will cover NPTC unit 308 (previously CS39) Aerial Cutting. Here you will learn how to operate a chainsaw from a rope and harness. You will also cover NPTC unit 307 (previously CS40) Tree Pruning. All tree pruning should be in line with BS3998  By the end of your second week successful candidates will have learnt how to operate a chainsaw within the tree and understand correct pruning practices.

The third week is NPTC unit 309 (previously CS41) Aerial Tree Rigging. Here you will learn essential skills on how to control the lowering of sections of wood. An advanced version of the course is available to candidates with already gained knowledge of aerial tree rigging.
