Our complete tree surgeon training packages have been designed for the 3 individual stages in your career. Generally, when starting out as a tree surgeon the first role is the Groundsman. Our complete Groundsman training package will provide you all the necessary training and NPTC assessments required, along with hazard awareness training and a talk from our expert tree surgeons discussing the role of the groundsman.
Our Arborist training package is an essential step in developing a career in tree surgery. This training package will prepare you for your career with all the necessary training and NPTC assessments required to become a climbing arborist. Finally, our Advanced training package explores the intricate equipment configuration in modern arborist systems that are becoming more popular in arboriculture today. We dive into complex rigging systems and cover a wide range of work positioning and ascending techniques. Included is our stationary rope techniques course which is concluded with either a TCIA or LANTRA assessment.

Our instructors and assessors have 20+ years industry experience and are keen to share their knowledge to help you progress in your career. Working from our stunning woodland in Essex, we provide exceptional training for leading tree surgery companies and individuals within London, Essex and Hertfordshire.

We have helped numerous companies achieve their Arb Approved Contractor (ArbAC) status and understand the level of competency required to achieve this – our training programmes assist you through your Arb Assessment and help you to become an Arb Approved Contractor.
Tree Surgery Training For All Levels

Chainsaw training became compulsory in 1998 with PUWER. All chainsaw operators within the work place must hold a recognised certificate of competence. Our wide range of land based chainsaw training and aerial chainsaw training will provide you with all the necessary qualifications to become a qualified chainsaw operator in the UK. Working in the tree surgery industry will also require you to use a variety of machinery, such as wood chippers, stump grinders, brush cutters and powered pole pruners which also require training under PUWER and Health & Safety At Work Regulations, visit our machinery training page to see what courses we can offer you.
When working as a climbing arborist we must adhere to the Working At Hight Regulations 2005. Aerial training is essential in building a career in tree surgery. We offer a wide range of aerial tree surgery training from basic courses in tree climbing and aerial rescue, along with advanced courses for experienced climbing arborists.
Advanced Arborist Training
At Ground Up Training we believe tree surgery training should continue throughout your career. Our advanced training courses are aimed at candidates who would like to further their skills, exploring the range of modern tree climbing and rigging techniques available today. Our advanced training courses cover the use of SRT (stationary rope techniques), advanced aerial rigging, along with arborist knots. With the recent addition of “Two-Rope-working” requirements, we also provide a 1 day update looking into the specifics as outlined by the HSE and WHR.
