Course description
This course covers appropriate techniques and safety guidelines for operating and maintaining a wood-chipper. Successful candidates will achieve the necessary certification to safely use wood chipping equipment. The course consists of 1 day training including the NPTC assessment. This qualification is aimed at those who operate a wood-chipper as part of their work, either in the horticulture, arboriculture, forestry or grounds maintenance industries.

- Legislation knowledge
- Risk assessment
- Maintenance and routine checks of the equipment
- Correct starting and pre-cutting procedure
- Cutting mechanism
- Operation and unblocking of a chipper
- Testing the safety features
- End-uses and hazards of wood chips
- Cleaning, transport and storage

- NPTC candidates must be over 16 years old
Equipment requirements
- Hard hat with ear & eye protection
- Gloves
- Work boots
- Wood-chipper machinery will be supplied by Ground Up Training
Please ensure all PPE is in good condition. Equipment is available for hire if candidates do not yet have their own. Please contact the office for cost.
